BEYOND GREY
ILLUSTRATION, MERCHANDISE DESIGN, DIGITAL COLLATERAL
OBJECTIVE:
Beyond Grey, a Miami-based charity, approached me seeking designs for merchandise and social media posts for their upcoming charity run. They envisioned a retro-themed mascot for t-shirts, as well as a design versatile enough to be used for stickers.
As with every project, it all started with a mood board.
From there, I curated visuals to lock in the retro vibe and ensure the design aligned with Beyond Grey’s playful, purpose-driven brand.
Mood Board
RETRO REVIVAL
This moodboard focused on vintage-inspired mascots paired with classic serif fonts to evoke a playful yet nostalgic feel. The goal was to create a design that felt warm, welcoming, and wearable—something people would be proud to sport in support of the charity. For the color palette, I focused on using just one or two colors to keep the design clean, cohesive, and easy to apply across t-shirts, stickers, and social posts.
The Process
-
I started by sketching the mascot in Procreate. Beyond Grey wanted to incorporate a grey cloud as a nod to their original logo, so I used that as a foundation. Since the charity run supports mental health awareness, I added a brain element to symbolize emotional well-being in a lighthearted, approachable way.
-
With the mascot finalized, I moved on to designing the merchandise. I selected a retro serif font for the main text to reinforce the nostalgic vibe, and paired it with a playful script font at the top to bring the whole design together. The goal was to create something people would genuinely want to wear—fun, meaningful, and memorable.
-
Once the visual identity was locked in, I designed a poster and social media post for Instagram. I carried over the mascot and font choices for consistency, using bold layouts and minimal color to maintain a clean, retro aesthetic. The digital assets were designed to generate excitement for the event while staying true to the brand’s mission and visual direction.
